Jenny B interview

Ciao Jenny, come stai?
Hi Tavi, I’m great. Thank you!

Jenny how did you start to work in this industry?

It happened when I was a young girl, around 15 – 16. At that time, I created my first group: we had a lot of fun playing music.

Why choosing the scene name Jenny B?
Well Tavi, it’s my name. I like it and I really think it represents me.

You worked with big names in Italy like Adriano Celentano & Zucchero. How was working with them?
I had a great experience and a great time working with these “big names”, also because I was on big stages, in front of thousand and thousand of fans :) A part from this, I worked with them in comlpete harmony and calm. When I toured with Zucchero, I was the youngest girl; I think I got my diploma just some days before the tour began and I believe I was the most coddled girl among all the staff.

In 2005 you put your voice on Benassi Bros track “Waitin' For You”. The result in an exceptional mix of beauty and powerfulness. What can you tell about that track?

I have to say that I really love “Waitin’ for you”, especially the verse orstanza. It’s one of my favourite tracks so far and I’m really happy that people like it too.

Is it the only track you did in collaboration with Benassi Bros?
Yes, it is.

Do you have in mind to release any other dance tracks with this project?
Don’t know if I will ever record any other tracks for this project, but I really hope to sing some new dance stuff!

Jenny do you often have contacts with other dance divas, such as Sandy Chambers, Alexia or Meoldy Castallari? With whom do you want to make a duet?
I know Sandy and Alexia, but I never thought about the idea of doing a duet with one of them. I will think about it, Tavi!

How did you feel when you won in the Young category at SanRemo 2000?

Sanremo was absolutely one of the best experiences I have ever had. When you are on the Sanremo stage, you’ve got everyones attention. I think it’s an experience to take with the right philosophy: I’ve seen many colleagues crying because their life was rotating around Sanremo Festival. And when they saw that they weren’t reaching their goal, they had failed. For me, it was fun, great and a big surprise. It was my first time composing and singing an Italian song (I wrote the lyrics of “Semplice sai”) and I won the young category + the critical prize of the Festival, so I was really satisfied. It was a magical moment and -par excellence– the magical moments are not releated with real life at all.

In 2000 you released your first album “Come un sogno”. Why did you choose to release an album in Italian and not in English?
Well, as you said, I won the Sanremo Festival, the most important Italian song contest. That’s why I had to record an Italian album.

What can you tell about that album? “Come un sogno” was recorded in record time. I remember that in that period I had the chance to listen to “Io sono il vento”, an Italian song presented at Sanremo Festival in 1959 by Arturo Testa. I love the melody, so I decided to insert it in my album.

How long did it take to record your first album "Come un sogno"?
As I said before, we recorded it in record time.

Can you define music?
Music is a way of expressing and speaking, it’s a way that you can use to “send a message” to the people, to share feelings. As all of us have different feelings, I need to express myself with different genres (like jazz, pop, dance and so on). Music is a language.

What do you think of this current ‘90s revival?
I think that – as often happen – there are some returning fads. For example, when I was in the Funky Company group, there was the Acid Jazz return. Now, the ‘80s and the 90’s are coming back. It’s quite normal that people are pulling out some stuff (music and fashion related) from the ‘90s: it’s a kind of memory that we can use to see how we were and how we felt. In the ‘80s and ‘90s I wasn’t so good: I was 15, in my teens. Now that the ‘80s and ‘90s are back, I feel music and style with affection, with a smile.

For you, singing dance music was only a job to pay the loans, or did you enjoy it a little?
Sometimes it was a job, but often it was pleasant, as I sang tracks that I liked. I was satisfied when I listened to the songs on radios or in discos.

How is Jenny in private life?
Private :)

What do you think about real-TV like X Factor, American Idol and Popstars? Would you consider becoming a X-Factor teacher or a member of some Popstars or X-factor jury?

Tavi, I’ve a big fault: I’m not tactful. So, if I’m in front of a “singer” who doesn’t sing well, I’m not so polite with him/her. Also, I really think teaching is a big responsibility. As a teacher, I absolutely want – from my students – a complete dedication and constancy that a TV show can not give to you. With this kind of TV program, people are led to think that everyone can do everything, something like “Ehy, yesterday you were a cashier? From tomorrow you can be a superstar!”. I don’t want to say that we can not change and become something different. I just want to say that this kind of TV programs bring illusions; the message that people feel is that with a good appearance, everyone can do everything. The big problem is that this kind of concept has become a real way of life. People have lost the desire to reach goals and this brings a void. We’re loosing the real meaning of things.

How comes that your official website www.jennyb.net hasn't been updated for a while?
You’d better visit my myspace! www.myspace.com/jennybflip

What are you doing tomorrow?
I’m going to see some friends from Cuba who are performimg in Rome.

What is her favorite city in the world and why?
As I don’t have a favourite musical genre, I don’t have a favourite city too. I’m lucky, because I can live in different places and I like all of them.

How does you train and preserve your superb voice? Do you have any tricks? Things to avoid?
I cannot reveal this kind of secret at the first interview… maybe, in a second one :)

Among all the singles you took part, did you ever contribute to a videoclip shooting?
No.

You worked for X-energy and Time records, which of this label was the nicest and why?
I had great experiences with both the labels, as they are professional and they work very well.

You are involved in charity projects?
Yes, but I don’t like to give money to the association, as sometimes it happens that the money gets lost. As I have enough time, I prefer do it personally.

Do you have a message for our readers or for your fans?
Be happy!

Grazie mille Jenny.

Heidi Degn interview

Who is Heidi Degn?

Heidi: Well - Heidi Degn is a 32 year old female from Denmark/Scandinavia - soon to become a mother for the first time. I live in Copenhagen, but originally from a town on the Danish west coast called Esbjerg. I work at Universal Music Denmark were I do PR, but my way into the business is through singing.. started out getting signed in 1998 with my old band Beepop,- we released two albums. After that I did backing singing on Danish "Stjerne for en aften" - like "Star Search" - and have been singing since and still do :)

Are you an actress too ? Can you spoke a little bit of that experience ?
Heidi: No I'm not an actress, but have been doing small bits here and there, in a commercial, and more recently as an extra on a new Danish tv series "Manden med de gyldne ører" which will start on DR2 Nov 1st. (Danish television). When I was younger I did school musicals, as everyone else I guess ;) I think it's fun and challenging though, and would love to do more.

If you had to choose between been an actress or a singer what will be ?
Heidi: I couldn't live without singing, and I know that I will always in one way or another be singing.. that's the case with most musicians I believe... they can't live without it ;) But as I'm getting older, the film business seems more and more interesting in all areas..

In 2007 you participate at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and you compete with Me & My , how was to share the stage with them?
Heidi: Pernille and Susanne from Me & My are great girls... I have talked to Susanne on a few occasions since, she's so much fun, and a talented song writer..

Who wrote the song “On top of the world” ?
Heidi: Lars Halvor Jensen from Danish producer success Deekay and Lasse Lindorff (GL Music) we wrote the song together.. they are two of my good friends and Lasse was in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix the year after me with the song "Hooked on you", and I did backing for him :)

Do you write your own songs ? You write and for other dance projects ?
Heidi: No I don't write my own songs, I used to… when I was in Beepop, but I simply haven't got the time anymore, and my biggest interest is in the actual singing. I don't write for dance acts either, they have other writers, I just perform it :)

Can you tell how did you met Dj Aligator team ?
Heidi: I met Ali in 2004 I think.. I came to his studio in Malmö/Sweden to sing a demo for another project that he produced, and he called me up a while later and asked if I would sing vocals on "Close To You" on his last album, and then I did another one recently for the new album - a cover song called "Shine" - check out the video on youtube

I think the most popular song on youtube is the one you made with Aligator “Close to you”, it’s one of my favorite too, who wrote that song and why this song doesn’t have a video ?
Heidi: A Danish song writer named Linnea Handberg wrote the song, and actually as far as I know the German label thought about making a video.. Ali and I did actually speak about it being one of the most listened to songs on youtube, and it was never even a single, I don't know why really?!! It's from 2005, but I guess a good song never becomes irrelevant.. huh!?

Now you came with another song “Shine” .. can you spoke a little bit of the song, has a story ?
Heidi: "Shine" is a cover song of a 90's trance team... I'm not sure what they're called "Space Brothers" or something.. I read somewhere on youtube, that the song is about twins being separated so one could live on.. a tough story if that's the case, very emotional..

When will be promoted and in other countries ? It’s the only song you collaborate, on Dj Aligator’s new album ?
Heidi: It's the only feature I'm on yes... Ali is releasing through Disco Wax/Warner here in Denmark, and I know the single is out and on the dance chart, but I'm sorry to say that I don't know the international plans.. you'll have to ask Ali :)

Are you thinking to release and other songs with Dj Aligator ?
Heidi: I don't know - if Ali asks me I might ;)

If you could go back in time what would you change ?

Heidi: I would change my statement about not ever being in the Melodi grand prix as an artist again... I wasn't pleased with my performance in 2007, so I said to the press that I wouldn't be in the competition again, but looking at it from a distance, I think I would do it again if the right song comes up... I will definitely be doing backing if anyone wants me on board any time ;)

Were you into 90’s Eurodance music, and if you were, did had an favorite artist or band ?
Heidi: Eurodance is not my favorite genre, I'm more into straight pop music or urban... even some rock music... but of course I listened to the hits in the 90's - being young and going out a lot in the 90's, I listened to the major hits with Snap, 2-unlimited, Venga Boys etc. But a favorite is hard to choose... I did love and still do Everything But The Girl's big hit "missing" - don't know if that goes under the category 90's dance?!

If you had to characterize yourself in three words what will be ?
Energetic, curious and conscientious

Are you thinking to participate again Dansk Melodi Grand Prix ?
Heidi: As I wrote earlier, I regret stating that I wouldn't ever again, so the answer must be yes if the right song for me comes up :)

What you hate the most ?

Heidi: Wauw... a big question... I think I hate narrow-mindedness in general.. think we should be better at accepting each other as we are... pass on the positive things in life, and we will all feel better :)

A message for our readers and for your fans ?
Heidi: Hi guys... thanks so much for showing the interest in my singing and in the Eurovision in general... I'm blessed to be able to work with what I love the most.. music !
Hope to meet some of you some day, pls. don't hesitate to join me on facebook :)
Take care...
xxx Heidi

One of the 9 new songs isn't completely new... "Mama Look (I Love Him)" which was on the European release of "Sweet Dreams" can also be found on the new album ! Most tracks on the new album are uptempo dance tracks !

Melanie Thornton ep 12

After "Fallin' in love" was released " I Love To Love". It went #6 in Australia. Fallowed by "Megamix" as a conclusion to this first album.Afterwards there was quite a long pause.
Melanie explains in that periode :

"Frank Farian held pretty much total control of the project and he had, since the beginning of La Bouche, picked up a whole lot of other projects. We'd been put on the backburner until he'd finished producing No Mercy (and others). He did record a single called Bolingo that was supposed to be the introduction of our second album, but it didn't work that way. It was like six months after the end of our first album and like a year before the actual release of the second album. It wasn't supposed to be that way, but it's just the way it happened. Basically it was just waiting on Frank Farian. First to be ready to start producing and then, second, to be satisfied with the work. There were also power struggles going on there. I would have to say a lot of it was disagreements between Frank and the labels". said Melanie

Melanie Thornton ep 10

This sudden success was great for Melanie, but to her it was like a gradual thing, a very happy feeling. She explains:

"It was like, "Oh, wow! This is something I dreamed of when I was six years old." But, at the same time, we were traveling so much. We really didn't have the time to soak in the momentum of our success - to soak in the hype and believe the hype. We were working really hard at this point. We would go places and people would go crazy to see us, and this was interesting. At the same time, I kind of kept in mind.
This is really great. I hope we can continue to produce music our fans love. But I always tried to keep a reality check. This is because this song is so widely publicized and promoted. And it IS a great song, but it's more about the product at this point than ourselves."

The next single was "Be My Lover" in 1995 in the new formula Lane & Melanie, becoming an instant hit once again : #8 in Israel, #1 in Germany and Spain, top 10 in Holland, Austria and Belgium, #3 in Australia, #2 in Canada, #2 in Italy, #3 in France, #5 Switzeland, and #25 in the UK.
After the huge success of " Be my lover" & "Sweet Dreams" in Europe they were invited to the USA to promote the single " Be my lover" on several radio stations and to do a new version of the video for the song, 'cause the original video was too hot to show on American music television. After the promotions & the shoot they also did a trip to the East River and they did a helicopter-flight over Manhattan.
The single "Be my lover" sold gold in USA and went #6 in the USA Billboard Hot 100.

Melanie Thornton ep 9

In a old interview, Melanie said "Looking back, it seems like it happened very quickly. In the process, it really didn't blow me away. I did the studio session with Amir Saraf and Uli Brenner in November 1993. Meanwhile, I was gigging, making my money, earning my living. Two months later, they called and said a record label was interested in releasing "Sweet Dreams" as a single".
At that time, Melanie was still hesitating between the 2 projects : La Bouche and Le Click.
But the success was immediate because "Sweet dreams" went #3 in Israel, #1 in Italy and Spain, #8 in Germany, #8 in Australia, #8 in France, #5 in Switzerland, top 30 in the UK, # 13 in the USA Billboard Hot 100 (where it stayed not less than 33 weeks !).
With Le Click release "Tonight Is The Night" at the same with "Sweet Dreams" like I said both songs with massive success in USA.
